In mid-October of 2007, Empowerment officially opened as a activist resource center, meeting space, and infoshop.. Over the past year we've hosted several dozen events ranging from potlucks, film nights, fundraiser parties, meetings, workshops, concerts, and more... We've torn down walls... literally. We've provided the city of London with radical books, zines, and other forms of media, we've served as a hub for both local and regional organizing of many important issues related to social, environmental, and economic justice. Not only did we dig out our driveway to plant seeds of sustainable agriculture, we planted seeds of hope and resistance throughout this city and far beyond... But what we've done will be nothing compared to what we will be able to show you next year..
- Independent Media Centre will be opened to facilitate the production of local independent media initiatives. We will be offering the local activist community 3 to 4 computers with internet and audio, video, and image editing software and a scanner, photocopyer, and cameras to help in the production of all forms of radical independet media. This infrastructure will help kick-start the Empowerment Media Collective.
- The Basement will be opened up as a venue for shows and larger meetings. Basement Punk and Hip-Hop Shows coming soon.
- Bike Space! We are working towards creating a bicycle repair space for you to use next time you get a flat or break a chain. Or for the more experienced folks, to build a bike. We hope to help put more bikes on the road and help foster a stronger cycling community and bike culture.
- Empowerment Studios: We plan to build a professional recording space and jam space for local radical artists and producers to create and record their cultural weapons. A music collective/record label will likely emerge out of this.
- A larger, expanded, more fruitful, community garden this spring!
